A Faint Heart Never A True Love Knows

“If you do not fully commit to something, you will never fully appreciate it.”

Heartbreaker – While most geographical areas do enjoy a seasonal respite from mosquitoes, the southern climates are still captive to their buzzing, blood-sucking schemes — even in the winter. Mosquitoes, of course, are carriers of the  parasite, a life threatening nematode that can cause severe disease and even DEATH.

Heartworm Surgery

Get At The Heart Of The Matter – Symptoms of  infection in DOGS and CATS. Even in areas where residents do not have to worry about mosquitoes during the winter, their return in the spring and summer months can catch you off guard. It is best to be pre-prepared.

Heart Worm Prevention

Put Your Heart Into It – To safeguard your dogs and cats against  infection, veterinarians suggest using  heart worm prevention medication year-round.

This is a much easier method of prevention, since you won’t have to remember when to star, or find yourself rushing to get the medication, and you won’t have to worry about having your pet tested for ‘s before beginning a new round of medication in the spring.

Follow Your Heart – There are a variety of options for preventing infection in both dogs and cats, including daily and monthly tablets and chewables, monthly topicals and a six-month injectable product available only for dogs.

All of these methods are extremely effective, and when administered properly on a timely schedule,  infection can be completely prevented.

These medications interrupt development before adult worms reach the lungs and cause disease.

Have A Change of Heart – Avoiding parasitic infestations of any kind is to use preventive techniques.

Remember that while fleas, ticks and mosquitoes may seem to be merely nuisance pests, they are actually capable of causing severe health problems, from the above mentioned infection, to skin disorders and infections, to anemia.

As the old axiom goes: It is better to be safe than sorry.

  • Great blog and cute pictures! People need to start taking action to prevent heart worms in their pets! People need to realize that even though they seem so insignificant they are a huge problem!! Its kind of like in nutrition week, its a lot better to spend a little more money preventing problems with good food/medicine than to have to pay huge medical bills later!

  • Hey Danny... What an awesome and informative blog. I wonder how many people who have pets even know that Mosquitos are the carries of heartworms. That was a very important comment you made concerning the southern states having fluctuating mosquito times of year. Many people don't really take this into account and try to save money during colder months. Which can end up costing them more $ in the long run. Just getting retested for heart worms can cost up to $35 each time. Great informative and practical blog.
