What's Holding You Back?

December 16, 2015

As we approach 2016, with great anticipation, many of us have set new goals for ourselves. I have a number of goals that I hope to accomplish this coming year. At times, I believe I’m my own worst enemy when it comes to moving forward. Moving forward often involves getting past our past. Moving forward may require us to get out of our comfort zone and do things which make us uncomfortable (at least initially) like exercising, using restraint when it comes to eating certain foods, etc.

We all know amazing people who have done remarkable things in their life. If you don’t know anyone like that, here are a few examples:

Did you know:

-Albert Einstein was four years old before he could speak.

-Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team. (Wow! I can only imagine what kind of a high school team that must have been!)

-Beethoven’s music teacher once said of him, “As a composer, he is hopeless.”

-Walt Disney was fired from an ad agency because he couldn’t draw.

-When Thomas Edison was a boy, his teacher told him he was too stupid to learn anything.

-Sam Walton’s first store failed.

-Henry Ford went bankrupt.

-Sir Winston Churchill failed the sixth grade.

The list of amazing people who have failed is endless!

So…what’s holding you back? The fear of failure? If so, then review the list above one more time. We all fail…the key is to learn from our failures and correct them. Tom Peter’s once said: “When you fail, fail fast!”

I hope we can all move forward in 2016, and when we fail, let’s fail fast so we can move forward and not hold back the great potential within each of us. Let’s all be the best we can be! Anything less is unacceptable, right?

So, what’s holding you back?
