We’ve all heard that standing is better than sitting. But why?
First thing, you’ll burn more calories throughout the day.
While standing you are using a lot more of your muscles more dynamically than you would sitting down. When you are sitting, you use less muscle, and the movement stays the same. And we all know, the more muscle you use the more calories you burn.
Second, you’ll have better posture.
When standing upright with your weight on your heels and chin forward your spine is in neutral position. The longer and more often your spine can be in its neutral position, the less back aches, headaches, knee pain, shoulder pain, neck pain, hip pain, and/or ankle pain creep up on you. While in a sitting position you shorten and lengthen various muscles that produce unneeded and unwanted tension around joints that will ultimately lead to pain, and pain isn’t fun.
So in short, if you stand more and sit less you’ll be healthier and pain-free!
