Satisfying Your Sweet Tooth in a Healthy Way

December 24, 2020

There’s no time quite like the holiday season, especially for those with a sweet tooth. From family gatherings to Christmas parties, there are always an abundance of sweets to choose from. With a busy schedule, it’s easy to munch on whatever is available, rather than your own healthy snacks. While an occasional dessert isn’t bad, it can be detrimental to your health to continue indulging. Here are a few ways to take care of your teeth during the holiday season:

Enjoy sweets with a meal

Instead of waiting till late at night to indulge in a little sugar, try eating something sweet with a meal! A little dark chocolate, some fruit or a little frozen yogurt along with a healthy meal is an excellent way to satisfy your sugar craving without overindulging.

Stay away from snacks

A candy bar here and ice cream the next hour may feel great in the moment, but will ultimately leave your body without the right nutrients it needs to get you through the day. Avoiding sugary snacks can be challenging when you’re stressed and on the go… But opting for a protein bar or a smoothie will leave you with more energy and feeling much better throughout the day.

Drink more water

Hydrate, hydrate and rehydrate! Research shows that often when sugar cravings hit, your body is actually craving some good old H2O! Carrying a water bottle throughout the day, can actually help curb those cravings and keep you clear headed!

Keep good oral health habits

We all give in a little every now and then, but it’s important to make sure healthy oral hygiene habits are a top priority! Brush, floss and use a proper mouthwash twice a day every day, or as directed by your Dentist. Going in for regular check ups and cleanings is also a MUST for dental health.
