The medical profession is continuing to grow even in tough economic times and is a testament to the value that medical billers and coders bring to physicians and medical offices! Even more amazing is the variety of career paths to choose from including front desk, reception, scheduling, business office, billing, coding, collections, management, and many others in whatever specialty you choose to work!
My name is Dori Ernstsen and I am the Department Head for the Medical Billing and Coding Program and the Health Service Administration at Community Care College. I started at CCC in 2008 and absolutely love my job! I have a passion for the medical industry and love teaching students so it is the perfect mix! I have a Bachelors Degree in Health Administration and am also a Certified Professional Coder. I have worked in the medical field since 1997 and managed several specialty clinics in various capacities.
Misty Green, CPC is another instructor that assists me in teaching all of the Medical Billing and Coding as well as Health Service Administration courses. Misty joined Community Care College in 2009 and is a valuable asset to our programs. She is not only a Certified Professional Coder but also has a history of working in women’s health at a local university in Tulsa.
The Medical Billing and Coding program is focused on the billing and coding in the medical office but also has exposure to the management side of the medical office. Since the MBC program is more of a ‘specialty’, students tend to make more money. There are also many certifications that students can choose to take upon completion of the program.
The HSA program is focused on teaching students overall how to run and/or manage a medical office. You will have medical management classes and exposure to coding. This program is very similar to the MBC program but offers more management courses with exposure to billing and coding.
We will challenge you and help you grow in your understanding of billing and coding and how it impacts the world around us. I and all the instructors are here to help in whatever way we can to ensure you are successful!
