For Immediate Release

Tulsa, Okla., (January 15, 2013) – Local periodontist Dr. Trung Tran spoke with students from the Community Care College Dental Assisting evening program in a recent presentation on periodontal disease and the role of the periodontist.

Tran offered his expertise to the school after a particularly positive experience with a CCC student who completed her externship with his practice. Tran was so impressed with the student’s work that he has requested more students be sent to complete their externship at his office.

Tran’s passion for both teaching and periodontics came across in the presentation.

“The students felt very comfortable about asking any questions during and after his presentation and really enjoyed his enthusiasm about his career,” said Stacey Duethman, CCC instructor.

Tran was even willing to share his own case studies with the students and was able to show them before and after pictures of his patients while protecting their identity, showing the students how to protect patients’ rights in a professional manner. Tran also shared his personal opinion on what qualities he looks for in an assistant. The students found this extremely helpful and it motivated them to set goals to achieve the level of professionalism that Tran described.

In the Dental Assisting program, students get hands-on training in the skills they will need to become an assistant in the field. They are also given many opportunities such as listening to guest speakers like Dr. Tran, field trips, and community service projects. When our students graduate from the program they are confident in themselves, what they have learned, and have the resume to prove it.
