4 Ways To Help Your Child While Teething

Do you have a young child who is crying for what seems like no reason? No matter what you do to comfort them, they seem like they’re in pain and won’t stop crying? Well, teething could be the cause of their pain! New teeth coming in and forming under the gums is a painful process. Those teeth, often called buds, move up and cut through the gums.

There are several ways to relieve the pain,

  • a cold wet wash cloth for your child to suck and chew on
  • ice
  • massaging pacifiers
  • pain relievers like acetaminophen.

Any of these or even a combination of these things can help your child with the teeth process.

Once you start to feel that bump under the gums its time to start thinking about caring for your child’s teeth. Start off with a soft small bristle brush and toothpaste that has no fluoride, as small children tend to swallow a lot of the toothpaste and the fluoride can be harmful to their digestive system.

Once that first tooth pops through the gums it’s also time to schedule their first dentist appointment. Make sure you find a dentist you and your child are comfortable with, a general dentist or a pediatric dentist is preferred. Remember to take care of your child’s baby teeth because you are teaching your child how to care for their permanent teeth.
