Techie tools to Organize Your Life- Part 1

May 13, 2014

I am the queen of lists. I’ve been making lists for years. At any given point in time you can stop me and ask me what’s on my list and I guarantee you I’ll have an answer. My lists have evolved over time. They started as lists written on random pieces of paper lying around. (I still tend to do this.) Then, I started using sticky notes and plastering them everywhere. In an effort to go paperless I found a sticky note app for my phone and proceeded to clutter it up with lists. (Yes, I still do this one too.) Currently Google Tasks has become my best friend. I use the task feature to keep a list of all of my current tasks.

This short series is designed to present you will techie resources to keep your life organized. There is a vast amount of these products on the market but I’ll narrow it down to a few of my favorites.

  1. Google Tasks

With my calendar open all the time, it only makes sense to have my task list attached to it. Google Tasks has been a lifesaver. If you haven’t seen it before, in Google, under “My calendars” is a link to turn on your task list. It looks like this:

Your task list will look a little something like this:

 Task

You can create multiple lists if desired. I like to have a list for things that need done immediately, things for the future and completed tasks. It may seem like the easiest thing to delete tasks once they are completed but I like to file them away so that later on I can reflect on my week’s accomplishments.

Adding tasks are simple. You can simply click within the task list and start typing or click the plus at the bottom of the list. One of the best features in my opinion is the due date feature. You can assign each task a due date and it will auto populate into your calendar. This is really helpful to visualize exactly when things need to be done.

I challenge everyone to give Google Tasks a try! Add a few tasks and see what you think! Leave me a comment with your thoughts! Stay tuned for more techie tools to help you organize your life!
