Best Tips on Health

How do you feel when you wake up in the morning? Are you rested? Refreshed? Are you ready to face the day and be AWESOME, or are you in discomfort or pain? Are you groggy? Mentally foggy? Do you just plain FEEL BAD?

Having spent the last 25 years working with people to help them FEEL BETTER, I am convinced that how we feel when we first awaken is a huge indicator to our overall health and wellness.

In support of Walk to Work Day, I would like to share some simple tips to help you feel better and gain the upper hand in your quest for being as healthy as you want to be.

• Drink WATER when you first wake up. BEFORE your coffee or orange juice. You are in a state of dehydration and your body functions are controlled by your brain, which needs water. Make a habit of keeping water with you all the time to stay hydrated. My clients normally lose 5-10lbs the first two weeks of their program because the increase in hydration allows their body to release what it has been hanging on to for normal body function.

• EAT BREAKFAST. Your grandmother was correct when she said breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Consider that meal to be the fuel that ignites your metabolism for the day. If you are trying to lose weight, gain weight, or support of lifestyle of exercise, the TWO MOST IMPORTANT things you can do to be successful are DRINKING half your body weight in ounces of water and eating a portion of protein and carbs in their most natural state EVERY 3 HOURS.

• WALK. Walking is the most convenient, cost efficient form of exercise you can do. Walking for 30 minutes a day has numerous health benefits. If you can’t find 30 minutes in one span of time, cut the time slots down to several 10 minute segments. Walking supports a long list of functions in your body. Lowers blood pressure, increases blood circulation, releases feel good hormones, and helps stabilize blood sugar. The list goes on and on. Spring into this new season with making just these three simple changes and I assure you that there will be a high probability that you will begin feel better. In turn, you likely will be motivated to listen to your body and begin to make more lifestyle changes. It all starts with the FIRST STEP.

    1. Hi Ashley!

I commend your desire to make some changes! Sometimes, just making the decision and VOICING IT is the hardest step. With the change in season, (finally!) now is a great time to get outside. Take the kids to the park, play ball with them..whatever fun activities you can do with your family counts! Even if it is 10 minute segments a couple of times a day, or several times a week, it all adds up!!
As for nutrition, I encourage people to eat a portion of protein and good carb every three hours to keep their blood sugar stable and keep energy high. An example would be a boiled egg (protein) and whole wheat toast (good carb). Or it could be cottage cheese (protein) and a piece of fruit (good carb). Also, try to have lots of salad with deep green lettuce like spinach leaves or Romaine at lunch and dinner if you enjoy salad. One last tip…drink half your body weight in ounces of water. If you can do that for 2 weeks, every day, it is likely you will force your body to release any water weight you are storing by not drinking enough water.
Hope this helps!! Don’t hesitate to shout at me if you need any thing more specific.
