This time of year as we implement new goals and resolutions I wanted to share a few thoughts with you.  Probably the top personal goal/resolution I hear from others is “I want to lose weight this coming year.”  I recently had my annual physical and my doctor told me: “It seems your weight is perfect.  You just happen to be 11 feet too short.”  In my desire to eat better and lose weight I’ve listed my dieting New Year’s Resolutions that I’ve had the past 5 years.  They are:

  • 2010: I will get my weight down below 175 lbs.          
  • 2011: I will follow my new diet religiously until I get below 185 lbs.
  • 2012: I will work out 3 days a week.
  • 2013: I will develop a realistic attitude about my weight.
  • 2014: I will look in the glass door of the “Way of Life gym” at least 1x/wk

Obviously looking through a glass door or driving past a gym will not get me to where I need to be weight and fitness wise.  To achieve results, ideas must be transformed into action.

 I recently came across an article in “Unstruck” listing “10 Goals That Could Change Your Life”.

  1. Confidence. This ebbs & flows for all of us, even those with the biggest swagger.
  2. Procrastination. Recognizing our avoidance tactics is half the battle in stopping them.
  3. Knowing what you want. It’s easier than you may think to lose sight of what’s important to you.
  4. Facing your fear. This is the mother of many, many stuck moments. These tips will help you stare it down.
  5. Perseverance. Getting started isn’t the hard part, keeping on is.
  6. Anxiety. Excess worry can be paralyzing. These 10 pointers will help you stop anxiety before it stops you.
  7. Asking for help. There are far more benefits of getting some assistance than always going it alone.
  8. Happiness. It’s not something to pursue, exactly. It’s more about your approach to life.
  9. Fresh perspective. When things start seeming stale, it helps to look at them in a new way.
  10. Gratitude. This can strengthen relationships, improve your health, and reduce stress.

 John Burroughts once said: “One resolution I have made and try always to keep is this—to rise above the little things.”  In 2014 let’s all rise above the little things that tend to bog us down and keep us from accomplishing big things.  We are all capable of doing great things!  Let’s make a commitment in 2014 to do great things every day!
